Western Health Advantage (WHA) is a full-service, not for profit health care plan operating in Northern California in the following counties: Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, Western El Dorado and Western Placer.  We offer a variety of health care products and services to meet the needs of patients, Sole Proprietors and employers.  The state of California recently named Western Health Advantage the #1 health plan in California for member satisfaction.

Sole Proprietors Qualifications:

1. A full time business with a business license or Tax ID.
2. Must have a current Schedule C showing a minimum gross income of $40,000 for the business.
3. Must not be on any other employer DE-6.

Employer Group Qualifications:

1. Employer must have a Tax ID and a DE-6 (IRS quarterly tax filing).
2. Employer must contribute a minimum of 50% to employee premium.
3. Employers must provide most recent DE-6 or prior carrier bill.
4. Partnerships must show most current Schedule K.

Mercy Healthcare Sacramento (MHS) and Catholic Healthcare West Medical Foundation (Mercy Medical Group (formerly MedClinic) Medical Group) are divisions of Catholic Healthcare West, a large, multi-state integrated health care delivery system.  MHS is building an integrated regional health system that will be a major component of the broader regional delivery system.

UC Davis Health System represents one of WHA’s major providers for primary, tertiary, and trauma services.  The system encompasses the UCD School fo Medicine’s clinical faculty, health care professionals of the medical center and a geographically dispersed network of primary care providers.

NorthBay Healthcare is a non-profit, community organization based in Solano County.  We have a nearly 50-year tradition of providing hospital and community services that are offered by no other health care provider in our region.  From emergency care to surgery and specialty services like cancer care and high-risk maternity services, thousands of people in Solano County rely on NorthBay Healthcare for compassionate care, advanced medicine and close to home.

Woodland Healthcare is one of Northern California’s first, truly integrated inpatient and outpatient health care delivery systems.  the Woodland Clinic Medical Group is a partner in the Woodland Healthcare System.  The clinic is the oldest, multi-specialty group practice in California.

Hill Physicians Medical Group Founded in 1983, Hill Physicians is the largest independent practice association in the nation serving over 350,000 members in Sacramento, Placer, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano and San Francisco counties.  With 2,000 physicians, Hill Physicians offers access to one of the most extensive medical delivery systems in Northern California.

Golden State Physicians Medical Group is a group of 350 physicians, about 100 of whom are primary care physicians.  The GSPMG physicians are located throughout the Greater Sacramento region.  While the GSPMG is relatively new, most of its physicians have been in practice in the Sacramento region for many years.  We’re sure you will notice some familiar names among their list of doctors.

Guaranteed Primary Care Access

WHA wants you to receive the care you need when you need it.  In most cases, your primary care physician will be available for urgent visits.� But when that’s not possible, we also offer a unique program which ensures access to another primary care provider for acute medical needs.

Referrals to Specialist – The Advantage Referral Program

To give you more flexibility in choosing a medical specialist, Wha allows you to access all specialists in our network, rather than only those who have direct relationships with your primary care physician.  Because most of your care is coordinated by your primary care physician, you will be referred to a Specialist or other health care provider when appropriate.

Why Western Health Advantage?

Western Health Advantage (WHA) is a relatively new health plan providing healthcare services to Sole-Proprietors, commercial subscribers, and Medicare beneficiaries in Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, El Dorado, and Placer counties in Northern California.  While it is state-licensed by the California State Department of Managed Health Care to do business as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), it is a radical departure from most of the managed care companies that exist today.

WHA offers patients, physicians and purchasers a model of managed care that emphasizes access to care, instead of obstacles to treatment, and puts healthcare before stock values.  The WHA Advantage Referral is a unique program; it enables WHA members to be referred easily to any specialist or hospital in the WHA network.  We feature some of the regions premier health facilities, giving our members access to over 600 primary care physicians and more than 1,000 specialty care providers.

We also maintain a complete network of referral physicians who have admitting privileges at some of the top facilities in the region.  This new health plan, created and sponsored by Mercy Healthcare Sacramento, University of California, Davis Health System, and NorthBay Healthcare System, is a non-profit, mutual benefit corporation directed by physician and hospital organizations.
