All of the major California health insurance carriers offer health insurance in the Los Angeles area such as; Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, HealthNet, Aetna, Kaiser and Pacificare.  All offer PPO, HMO and HSA style plans, which all work a little different from each other. 

Rates in Los Angeles are as competitive as anywhere else in Califonria.  Depending on the carrier, some are lower than others.  So it is wise to compare rates and benefits yearly, as some companies have rate increases which may take you competitive plan a year ago to become one of the unfavorable ones this year.

For the casual shopper clicking on health insurance websites, this can be a very confusing process because of the sheer number of plans available.  Some include maternity, some don’t, other plan only offer Generic drugs and not Brand name.  Out patient coverage may or may not be covered.  Emergency room may have a $100 copay other plans you will pay the entire amount.  Be careful and do your homework.  Also talk to an independent agent for their opinions.  There are no obligations when you are researching the best plan for your unique needs.  So ask plenty of questions.

Anthem Blue Cross has some of the more lower cost plans available in Los Angeles and throughout California.  The New Smart Sense plans are now their most popular plans.  If you are looking, you should take a peek, they might be just what you are looking for.  You may want to also compare the Blue Shield, they have recently added many new plans.
