Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan N

Anthem Blue Cross Medicare SupplementThe Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan N has became one of Anthem’s most popular Medicare Supplement plans.

Anthem’s Medicare Supplement Plan N is a great alternative to Plan F, and for someone looking for a lower priced Medicare Supplement.  Plan N has all the benefits of a Medicare Supplement:  You can see any doctor, specialist or hospital in the U.S. who accepts Medicare, that’s nearly 96%. And Plan N provides very comprehensive medical benefits, including 100% coverage for hospitalization.

With Plan N the member will have an office visit copay of $20 and a $50 copay for emergency visits.  The member is responsible for the Part B annual deductible of $183.00.  The premium costs for this plan are around 30% less than Plan F.

2019 Anthem Medicare Advantage plans are now available.

The only time a Plan N does not make sense to enroll in is, if a person typically needs several outpatient visits per month.  Remember you are responsible for the $20 copay for all outpatient visits.  That includes; doctor visits, physical therapy, lab, X-ray, outpatient surgery, any visit or services not considered inpatient hospitalization.

Plan N Coverage:

  • Part A deductible ($1,364 every 60 day period)  Plan N pays this deductible.
  • Part B deductible ($185 annual deductible)  Plan N does not pay this deductible.
  • Plan N has a $20 office visit copay after Part B Deductible.
  • Hospice Benefit – Plan N, covered
  • Part B Excess Charges – Plan N, not covered

Click here to view how Medicare Part B Excess Charges work.

An Anthem Medicare Supplement allows you to keep your own doctor and hospital and choose your own specialists and other health care providers.  And as long as your doctor is a Medicare-approved provider, you are free from paperwork and filing claims.  Your doctor and your Medicare Supplement plan take care of this for you.

When you are with Anthem Blue Cross, you’re getting more than 60 years of trust and experience.  Collectively, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield system provides healthcare coverage for 100 million people or one-in-three Americans.

Six Month Open-Enrollment Period:

  • Can’t be denied enrollment into any Medicare Supplement policy we sell.
  • Won’t be charges more based on your health.

What is Medicare?  Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older and for people younger than 65 with certain disabilities. Medicare was introduced in 1965 as a way for Americans to have more affordable access to health care after retirement.

Who is Eligible for Medicare?  You or your spouse worked for at least 10 years in Medicare-covered employment.  AND, you are 65 or older, or, you are under 65 and qualify for Medicare due to a disability.  AND, you are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

About Pre-Existing Conditions– If you have had at least six months of prior creditable coverage or are in a guaranteed issue situation, you don’t have to wait for coverage to start for a pre-existing condition.  Many types of health care coverage count as creditable coverage, but they only count if you did not have a bread for more than 63 days.  This prior coverage can be used to eliminate or shorten waiting periods for pre-existing conditions.  A pre-existing condition is a condition either treated or diagnosed six months prior to the effective date of your policy.

The California Birthday rule allows you to move to a different company with the same plan or one with less benefits.  If you wish to upgrade, you must answer the health questions on the new company application.

There are many different rules pertaining to medicare supplement open enrollment opportunities, so please contact me and we can discuss your current situation and options.

With a Medicare Supplement policy you are able to see doctors and hospitals across state lines and in any state of the U.S.  If the doctor accepts Medicare your policy will pay for the services provided regardless of the city, county or state the doctor practices in.

If a highly recommended specialist office is in Connecticut, or New York, or Florida and they accept medicare.  Make the appointment, your policy will pay for the medicare services.

Questions & Comments:

Palo Alto Medicare Supplement

Anthem Medicare Supplement plans and rates in Palo Alto (Santa Clara County) provide the best access to doctors and hospitals along with the most comprehensive coverage available to Medicare Members.

Be sure to compare the new Anthem Medicare Supplement “Innovative” Plan F.  This new plan only from Anthem and is identical to the traditional plan F but it also includes “hearing” and “vision” benefits at no additional cost.  Also the monthly premiums are less then before. Click here for info.

2018 Example Rates:

QUICK LINKs:

The alternative to a Medicare Supplement is the Medicare Advantage plan.  In Palo Alto and Santa Clara County there are eight Medicare Advantage plans, all being HMO style plans providing very limited access to different doctors or hospitals.

If you are looking for flexibility and great coverage, there is only one choice; an Anthem Medicare Supplement.

Some of the hospitals in and around Palo Alto are: Stanford Hospital, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, El Camino Hospital, Sequoia Hospital, Menlo Park Surgical Center, UCSF, O’Connor Hospital, Mills Peninsula Health Services, Good Samaritan Hospital and many others throughout the greater Bay Area.

When you enroll into an Anthem Medicare Supplement, there are three parts to the coverage picture.  First you have Medicare A and B, then the Medicare Supplement policy such as a Plan F, and finally you choose a Medicare Part D Rx plan to help pay for your prescription costs.

Most will choose a different Medicare Part D Rx plan than the company offering their Medicare Supplement.  The best route for a Part D plan is to input your prescription list into the Medicare website with the dosage and frequency.

The site will show you the best plans for your medication list.  So you will most likely mix-n-match a Part D plan with your Medicare Supplement for the most comprehensive coverage for both your health and Rx coverage.

Medicare Supplement companies you should compare as a Palo Alto resident:  Anthem, Mutual of Omaha, Blue Shield, Health NetAetna and UnitedHealthcare.  This will cover just about all the bases when reviewing which Medicare Supplement company is right for your situation.

When can you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan?  There are “Guarantee-Issue” situations and “Underwritten” situations.  The guarantee issue situations include: within 6 months of starting Medicare Part B, less than 60 days of exiting an employer group health plan, having your Medicare Advantage plan cancel or you move outside the Medicare Advantage operating territory.

These are some of the most common situations, there are several others.  An underwritten situation is if you are looking to switch companies or enroll outside of the above examples, anytime of the year.

When switching companies or enrolling in a new Medicare Supplement company the enrollment form is completed along with answering the health and prescription questions, the company then will review the forms and base their decision on how the questions are answered.

Anthem offers all three Plans; G, F and N in San Jose and Santa Clara County.  Currently only Plan F is the Innovative plan, although in other Anthem States, the Innovative plans include; F, G and N.

A couple things to remember about Plan N.  You have an annual “outpatient” deductible of $185, after you will have a $20 copay whenever you see a doctor, specialist or lab.  Hospital is still covered at 100% except if you are hospitalized as observation status instead of for admitted.  Observation status is considered “outpatient” which would fall under Medicare part B.

Popular Medicare Plans in Los Angeles

Are you new to Medicare … If so, I’m sure you have a three foot high stack of company brochures, marketing fliers and advertisements from every Medicare company in Los Angeles.  Some pieces are pretty good and some are misleading.

Call me, I’ll save you a lot of time in choosing which direction to go in.  Who has the best rates, which company is the easiest to deal with, who to stay clear from and I’ll also help with your Medicare Part D

A couple things to be aware of …

First … if you live in Los Angeles, so you can take advantage of the “Birthday-Rule” each year on the month of your birthday, if you are enrolled in a Medicare Supplement plan.

The Birthday-Rule allows you to change your company every year guaranteed, regardless of current or previous health issues.  It’s a great rule!!  So don’t feel like you will be trapped into a Medicare Supplement plan or company long term.

Second … look at the premiums for the Los Angeles area.  You don’t want to be paying more than you should.  With a Medicare Supplement, you won’t know the difference when you go to a doctor or hospital whether you have an Anthem card in your card, a Mutual of Omaha card, or any other company card.

But do talk to your friends or family what their experiences are when trying to contact a company regarding service like billing, questions regarding a claim or any other customer services related issue.  Some companies are easy to work with, others not so easy.

Financial rating … of a company doesn’t have the level of importance today as it did in the past.  Remember Executive Life in the early ninety’s, or how about AIG which in 2008  had a A+ Superior rating right before the state stepped in for their bailout.  If a company becomes insolvent, you have a “guaranteed-transfer” option to move to a company of your choice.

Open Enrollment …  The “Annual Open Enrollment” season is; October 15 thru December 7th of each year.  If you are a current Medicare Advantage member or are looking into enrolling, be sure to compare the different plans available in your county.  Each year the current plans change a little and new plans are introduced.  If you need a little help sorting through the different plan outlines, please feel free to call anytime, I’ll be happy to help.

Enrolling is Easy … Call today, I’ll help explain which plan will be best for your situation.  Call for an Application, I can email or Mail the appropriate forms to you.
