Medicare Advantage plans in San Jose (Santa Clara County) have several of the well known medicare advantage companies available to you.
Anthem, Blue Shield, Aetna, Health Net and UnitedHealthcare are five very popular medicare advantage HMO plans offering quality coverage and large networks of doctors and hospitals to choose from. The choice of medicare advantage hmo companies may change slightly from year to year.
The Open-Enrollment starts October 15 and ends December 7. All changes and new enrollments take effect on January 1. Call me on October 1, that is when I will have access to all Medicare Advantage companies and plans through out California.
Check the Doctor Network
One of the major differences between all of these companies and plans is; who do you have access to? What doctors and hospitals are contracted providers for your plan. It is very important to verify the doctors you have access to before signing up for the new plan.
Many of the Medicare Advantage HMO plans are similar in design and pricing. Although the doctor networks are typically what separate the plans.
If you have a doctor or hospital you do not wish to leave, the first part of your search is to find out what medicare advantage plans your doctor and hospital are contracted with.
When enrolling into a medicare advantage HMO plan in San Jose, you will need to choose a local Primary Care Physician (PCP). This doctor is typically a General Practitioner (GP) or an Internist. This is the doctor who will refer you to specialist and also the the hospital they are affiliated with.
Not all GP’s are PCP’s
Not all General Practitioners and Internist are Primary Care Physicians (PCP’s). If not they cannot be your primary care physician.
If this is a new doctor, you can ask them who they will be referring you to, including which hospital they use for inpatient services.
You will notice most of the San Jose medicare advantage HMO plan benefits are quite similar. There will be differences such as; copays, deductibles and annual out of pock maximums. But for the most part they will look and feel quite similar.
If you are looking for a medicare plan with more doctor and hospital choice, there is nothing better than a medicare supplement. With a medicare supplement policy you can see any doctor, specialist or hospital across the U.S. who accepts medicare. “Complete freedom of choice.” There are no networks to navigate. If the doctor accepts medicare, you can see them, it’s that simple.
- Medicare Supplement Plans (Santa Clara County)
Medicare Supplement policies are “letter plans” such as Plan F and Plan G or Plan N. All with a different level of coverage. They only provide coverage for medical services, medicare supplement policies do not include the Medicare Part D Rx coverage.
You will need to enroll in a Medicare Part D Rx plan to help pay for your prescription costs. There are typically 25 part D plan in Santa Clara County from year to year. It’s best to run a comparison in order to see which plan will cover your medication the best. The Medicare.gov website is a good place to run your comparison or you can contact me and I’ll be happy to send you the comparison for your medications.
