Sacramento County Medicare Supplement

15 February 2010 No Comment

sacramento medicare supplementSacramento County Medicare Supplement plans offer some of the most price conscious rates in California.  To compare the Medicare Supplement monthly rates of the most competitive companies in the Sacramento area, or any other part of California please click on the company links below to start your comparison.

Since 1992 Medicare Supplement plans have been “standardized,” meaning, the plans must offer the same standardized benefits regardless of the company offering the plan or the state the plan originates.  If you are looking at a Plan F from company A, Plan F must be the same from company B.  Company rates will differ widely along with customer service and how well the company is rated.  So be careful when considering a plan from a particular company.  Price is not the only factor, customer service and financial strength should also be considered during your evaluation.

An alternative to a Sacramento County Medicare Supplement plan is what is called a Medicare Advantage plan, the Anthem Freedom Blue plan is a Medicare Advantage.  This type of plan replaces Medicare when coverage is in place.  A Medicare Advantage plan is usually a PPO or HMO plan, which may include your Part D Medicare Prescription service included in the monthly premium.  Also, the monthly premium is typically much less than a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan, sometimes even at zero premium.  The Medicare Advantage plan will also have deductibles, coinsurance, co-pays and other out of pocket amounts, usually upwards of $3,000 to $4,000 per year.  A strong Medicare Supplement plan will have virtually $0 out of pocket costs to you,  because the Medicare deductibles and co-insurance costs are covered.

Medicare Supplements also known as Medigap, are designed to couple with Medicare coverage and fill in the gaps where Medicare lacks to provide coverage.  In this example, you will keep Medicare along with a Medicare Supplement Plan.

Applying is Easy!

You have guarantee-issue periods when you first start your Medicare Part B coverage, this is a 6 month window where you can choose the Medigap plan of your choice.  The other guarantee-issue period is called the “Birthday Rule” which is every year on the month of your birthday you are able to change companies with the same plan or one with less benefits.  This allows you to move to a company with better rates for your age group.
