New Anthem Medicare Supplement Rates
The New Anthem Blue Cross Medicare Supplement rates are available for the Modernized plans (you can view them here). These are for the 6/1/2010 changes for every state. The Anthem Medicare Supplement plan portfolio will be adding plans G and N. Also all Medicare Supplement plans effective 6/1/2010 or later must offer hospice benefits. Two benefits will be cut from all Medicare Supplement plans; “at home recovery” benefits along with “preventive care” benefits. Plans being eliminated effective 6/1/2010 are; E, H, I and J, simply because of plan duplication. With the elimination of these two benefits,
plans E, H I and J will virtually be identical to other medigap plans.
Anthem Blue Cross Medicare Supplement plans are offered in the following states:
- California
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Georgia
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Maine
- Missouri
- Nevada
- New Hampshire
- New York
- Ohio
- Virginia
- Wisconsin
If you are a policyholder of one of the eliminated Anthem plans, you will be allowed to hold onto your current plan for as long as you like. Or you can transfer to one of the new “modernized” Medicare Supplement plans, M or N, as long as you transfer during the guaranteed issue time period. If you wish to transfer to one of the other modernized plans such as Plan F you will have to be approved medically by answering certain question on the application.
Changes Effective 6/1/2010:
- Plan G will have 100 percent coverage for part B excess charges (currently at 80%).
- Plan E will be eliminated because it will be the same as Plan D.
- Plans H and I will be cancelled because of the elimination of the prescription drug benefit.
- Plan J will be eliminated because if will be the same as Plan F.
- New Plan M: 50% coverage for the Medicare Part A deductible of $1,100. No coverage for the Part B deductible of $155.
- New Plan N: 100% coverage for the Medicare Part A deductible, no coverage for the Part B deductible. After the Part B deductible is satisfied members will have a $20 copay for doctor visits.
Now is a good time to compare the new Anthem Medicare Supplement rates (or any other company). You can view them here. With the changes occurring with all Medicare Supplement plans, be sure to compare the new rates and benefits with what you currently have. Many will be switching to one of the New Modernized plan simply because of the premiums being offered.
