The Real Reason you need a Medicare Supplement
We’ve all heard the reasons why we need a Medicare Supplement plan such as; filling the gaps, deductibles and co-insurance which Medicare does not cover. But the real reason is the right Medicare Supplement plan for your unique needs allows you to properly plan for your health care costs. In other words, you will know what your monthly premium will be, along with how much or little you will need to pay for a doctor visit, or hospital stay. These are planned expenses, you know what to expect.

Without a Medicare Supplement plan, you know you will most likely have medical expenses, but how much will they cost? Take the Medicare Part A deductible for example. This is a hospital deductible which is $1,100 for 2010. This deductible does not work like the traditional annual deductible you may have had in the past with your employer based health insurance plan, which you only need to satisfy the deductible once during any given year. With the Medicare Part A deductible, you may have to satisfy the deductible several times during the year. The Medicare Part A deductible is considered a “benefit period” deductible, with a benefit period consisting of sixty days. You could conceivably be responsible for the $1,100 deductible every 60 days. Is this likely to occur? Not really, but it does happen. These are unexpected expenses, which are difficult to plan ahead for.
Looking ahead at your health care expenses is easy to prepare for if you know what your monthly outlay will be. That is exactly what a Medicare Supplement does for you. Since the plan covers most if not all of your medical costs, all you have to prepare for is the monthly premium. Medicare alone for some may be a workable plan, especially if you have the income to pay for the unexpected deductibles and co-payments you will be responsible for when an illness or accident happens. Hospital expenses (multiple Part A deductibles) are very expensive and at time stressful to handle. Outpatient visits, physical therapy and surgery add up as well.
Medicare Supplement Information
Again, the real reason for a Medicare Supplement plan is so you can have a planned system of expected health care expenses, especially if you are on a fixed income, or budget. Knowing the costs allows for peace of mind, and the ability to easily prepare for your future health care expenses. No unexpected costs, no surprise bills you must pay for, and no surprises. This is the real reason to have a Medicare Supplement plan.
