SilverSneakers gym membership, preventive care coverage, online resources and discounts, and much more.

Can I Choose my own Doctor?

Yes, the Anthem Colorado Medicare Preferred Core and Premier PPO plans have formed a network of physicians, specialists and hospitals. You can use any doctor who is part of our network. You may also go to doctors outside of our network. This is a great advantage of having a PPO style Medicare plan, which allows greater access of physicians and hospitals when you need it most. You don’t need a referral for a primary care physician. Call a doctors office, make the appointment and go. It’s that simple.

What do these plans cover?

As you can see from the above benefit-chart, the Anthem Colorado Medicare PPO plans are full “Major-Medical” Medicare health plans. Providing comprehensive coverage for both inpatient hospitalization, along with out-patient doctor visit care, testing, procedures and surgery. The Anthem Medicare Part D Prescription plan is also included in both PPO plans at no additional charge. The “Benefit Outline” (link below) will provide a more detailed look at the two Anthem Colorado Medicare PPO plans.

So if you are looking for an affordable, comprehensive Medicare plan with freedom of choice of doctors and hospitals, the Anthem Colorado Medicare Preferred PPO plans are plans you should definitely compare with the other plans you are reviewing.

How to Enroll …

It’s easy, simply print the 2012 application (or call me and I’ll send you one). Once completed, fax or mail it to me for processing. I’ll be able to track the process for you to make sure the enrollment forms are complete and the effective date is what you desire.

Automatic Enrollment …

If you are receiving Social Security - Medicare starts the first day of the month you turn 65.

If you get disability benefits from Social Security - Medicare starts the first day of the 25th month after your social security benefits start.

If your disability is ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease - Medicare starts the first day of the month your social security or disability benefits begin.

If you are 65 or older and are not receiving your social security benefits because you are still working, you will not receive Medicare Parts A and B automatically. You will need to sign up for them by contacting the social security administration at: 800-772-1213.

Part A Premiums …

Most people do not pay for their Part A premium, because they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes during their working career. People who are not eligible for “premium-Free” Part A may purchase the coverage for a premium. If you purchase Part A, it is mandatory to also purchase Part B.

When can you sign up … (Initial Enrollment Period)

The Medicare sign up period 7 months. You can sign up three month prior to your birthday month, the month of your birthday and up to three months after your birthday. If your birthday is not on the 1st day of the month, your start date will be the first day of your birthday month. If your birthday is on the 1st day of the month your Medicare start date will be the first day of the previous month of your birthday.

General Enrollment Period …

If you did not sign up for Medicare A and B when you were first eligible, you can sign up between January 1 and March 31 each year. Your coverage will start July 1. You may have to pay a higher premium for late enrollment.

Special Enrollment Period …

If you did not sign up for Medicare A and B when your were first eligible, because you were still employed and or enrolled in a Group Health plan. You can sign up for Medicare A and B anytime while you are still employed or have your Group Health plan. Or, during the 8-month period that begins the month after your employment ends or the group health coverage ends, whichever happens first.

Late Enrollment …

The late enrollment penalty is equal to 10% of the Part A premium, unless you are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. You will have to pay the penalty for twice the number of years you were initially eligible for Part A.

Part B is also a 10% penalty for each 12 month period you delay enrollment in Part B. You will have to pay the 10% penalty for as long as you are enrolled in Part B coverage.

Medicare and Tricare …

If you have Medicare Part A and TRICARE (coverage for active duty military and retirees and their families), you must also have Medicare Part B to keep your TRICARE coverage. However, if you are an active duty service member or the spouse or dependent child of an active duty service member, you do NOT have to enroll in Medicare Part B to keep your TRICARE. When the active duty service member retires they must then enroll in Medicare Part B to keep their TRICARE coverage.

So you are turning 65 and have received Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D Rx plan brochures and enrollment kits from Anthem Blue Cross along with every company under the sun which could easily stack up to your ceiling. Some of which you have never heard of. This is the “Modus Operandi” for most companies, send you as much “stuff” as possible, and hopefully you enroll. Unfortunately this process of receiving a room full of boring, hard to understand marketing materials is not in your best interest.

Where to Start …

Before going through the pile of brochures with all of the smiling faces on the covers, you must first understand how Medicare works and what you need to properly protect yourself and family, at a cost you can afford.

Medicare Part A …

If you have worked at least 40 quarters in the US, you are entitled to Medicare Part A coverage, which pays for part of your “in-patient hospitalization.” Beware of the $1,130 “Benefit-Period” deductible. Which is a 60 day deductible, not an annual deductible. If the situation is right, a person would have to pay this $1,130 deductible 6 times in a year.

Medicare Part B …

When you are eligible for Medicare, you must request and enroll in Medicare Part B for a monthly premium (call the Social Security Admin: 800-772-1213 – they will send you the enrollment form). Part B provides coverage for “out-patient” physician coverage, outpatient hospital services, medical equipment and supplies and skilled nursing care. Part B has an “annual deductible” of $162. You are also responsible for 20% of all costs once your deductible is satisfied (Medicare picks up 80%).

3 Options …

You generally have three choices when you start Medicare.

Use original Medicare only and be responsible for all deductibles, percentages and out-of-pocket costs when you seek medical services.

Purchase a Medicare Supplement plan and Medicare Part D Rx plan.

Enroll in a Medicare Advantage HMO or PPO plan which may or may not include Part D. There are other combination’s of options, but these are the general rule.

Medicare Part D Rx plans …

Medicare does not provide prescription coverage. Part D plans are administered by insurance companies and are what’s called; County-Specific. Meaning the company providing the Part D plan must be available in your county. There are hundreds of companies offering Part D coverage. A good place to start is: www.Medicare.gov, you can enter your zip code and prescription list, and the site will show you details on all plans in your county, including monthly premiums, what the costs are per drug, if there are any restrictions with a particular drug, etc. It’s a great information source. Or, you can contact me and I can do that for you and show you what the top three plans are for your unique situation. Click here for a little more info.

Medicare Supplement …

Want more than what original Medicare offers? Medicare Supplement plans may be what will work for you. They are “letter plans” such as; Plan A, C, D, F, G, N and a few others. Take plan F for example. With a Medicare Supplement plan F you are covered at virtually 100% of all Medicare costs. Hospitalization, doctor services, medical equipment, lab, X-rays, radiology and so on. You can see any Medicare-Approved physician or hospital in the US, and you don’t need referrals. No more worries about insurance company physician networks.

All Medicare Supplement plans have a monthly premium, typically based on your current age, a few states have a flat rate. You will also need to purchase a Medicare Part D Rx plan. Medicare Supplement plans rarely change plan design or benefit structure, which is much different from a Medicare Advantage plan which change annually. With a Medicare Supplement plan you can be confident that your benefits may never change. That is a good thing!

Anthem Medicare Supplement Rates – Along with other major company rates.

Medicare Advantage …

Medicare Advantage plans are typically HMO and PPO plans. They look and feel much like an employer health insurance plan, in that you may have deductibles, copays and other out of pocket costs when you see a doctor or hospital. Also, some Medicare Advantage plans include the Part D Rx plan for the same premium which is usually quite a bit less than a Medicare Supplement plan. With the Medicare Advantage system you are allowed to change plans and or companies each year. There is an “Open-Enrollment” period at the end of each year, allowing companies to show what changes they have made to their plan. Medicare Advantage plan rates and benefits change each year, some plans much more than others. Take advantage of the “Open-Enrollment” each year to make sure you are receiving the best plan for the premium in your area. Take a look at the Anthem Freedom Blue PPO plan, it’s not in all states but it’s a good one!

Once you are on a Medicare Advantage plan, if you want to switch to a Medicare Supplement, you will have to answer all the “health” and “prescription” questions on the Medicare Supplement application. Your transfer is not guaranteed. There are a few rules which allow you to move to a Medicare Supplement guaranteed, but in most cases you have to be approved medically.

Guaranteed-Issue and Open-Enrollment …

There are many situation where you must be offered the plan you are enrolling in; New to Medicare (6-month window), Coming off of an employer health insurance plan and currently on Medicare (63 days), Your Medicare Advantage plan is being canceled or non-renewed (63 days). There are many other situations available. Click here to find out.

I hope this information helps during the time when you are most likely overwhelmed with proposals, brochures, applications and other marketing materials.

Please feel free to call or email anytime with questions.

For Anyone on Medicare A and B …

Are you new to Medicare, coming off of a Group Health Plan, dis enrolling from a Medicare Advantage plan which you have had for less then 12 months, or simply shopping for a new company? Call or email, and I will forward you the different company rates so you can make the best decision for your situation.

Also – Under-Age 65 and on Disability …

You may be eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan if you have been on Disability for 24 months. Not all states offer under-age 65 Medicare Supplement plans. Depending on the state you reside, I can show you the available company plans and rates for your area.

Don’t forget Part D Rx coverage …

You will also need to enroll in a Medicare Part D Rx plan to cover your prescription needs. Medicare Supplement plans do not include Rx benefits. A good place to start your search is www.Medicare.gov, you can enter you prescriptions with dosage and the website will show you which companies pay the most for your current prescriptions, along with the plan monthly premium. Be aware some companies have a $310 annual deductible before the plan starts to pay for the drugs, other plans do not have this deductible. If you like you can send me your prescription list and I can enter them for you, then send you the results. Let me know if I can help.

No Need to Worry about Doctor Networks …

With any Medicare Supplement plan you are able to see any Medicare-Approved physician or hospital in the U.S. No need to check the insurance company network of providers. Also you will not need referrals to see specialists. This is one of the many great benefits of having a Medicare Supplement plan.

Current States …

Sentinel Security Medicare Supplement plans are in the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Their customer service is very good. This is a big one, I judge a Med Supp company heavily on their service. If a client calls me with an issue, or they would like to make changes to their account, and I need to call the company. Will I be able to receive quick and accurate information, and provide a quick fix? With Anthem I can honestly say the service is great. Most of my clients will call me with questions or changes regarding their plan. With a quick call to Anthem I am able to return the call to my client with the information they are looking for.

Anthem Extras – additional benefit plans including Dental, Vision, Silver Sneakers fitness program and Foreign Travel. You can view them here. Standard Package: $23, Premium Package: $44, Premium Plus Package: $63, Premium Plus Dental: $47. Added plan with the simplicity of one invoice and one service department.

Anthem’s Medicare Supplement plans have very stable rates through a persons 60′s, 70′s and 80′s. Anthem does not offer a “teaser-rate” then raise the premiums considerably after you are a member.

Anthem provides Medicare Supplement plans, a very popular Medicare Advantage PPO, and several Medicare Part D Rx plans to choose from. All under one roof.

70 years of experience serving seniors.

A company for now and into the future. Anthem works hard for your business. They are always looking for ways to provide more to their members, in the way of savings coupled with quality coverage.

The most popular plans – Anthem provides in my opinion, the best and most popular Medicare Supplement plans: A, F, High Deductible F, G and N. With this choice of plans you have the premium choice along with coverage choice at your fingertips.

There you have it! There are many, many more reasons, although these are what I believe what makes Anthem so good at what they do in the senior market.

I’m here to help, so please feel free to call or email anytime with your questions. Over-age 65 or Under-age 65 Medicare Supplement plans can be a bit confusing at times with different situations.

Looking for Plan F, G, D or any of the other Medicare Supplement plans in Illinois, Gerber is a company you should include in your comparison. Switching to a different company or new to Medicare, Gerber Medicare Supplement plans offer competitive rates throughout Illinois. Gerber, Mutual of Omaha (United of Omaha in Illinois), Forethought and Family life are all companies to throw in the mix.

Gerber was named one of the top 50 performing Life and Health companies in 2009 by the Ward Group which is an independent consulting and benchmarking firm in the insurance industry. Licensed in almost every state, Gerber has $37 billion of in-force life insurance, and more than three million members in force.

Part A Deductible …

Plans D, F and G are a few of the available plans which cover the Medicare Part A deductible of $1,32.00. After the first 60 days Medicare pays all of the eligible in-patient hospital expenses. Also covered is the $283 co-insurance from days 61 through 90. And when in the hospital from days 91 through 1500 your Illinois Medicare Supplement plan F pays the $566 per day charge which is not covered by Medicare.

Skilled Nursing Facility Care …

The first 20 days, Medicare pays all expenses. Plans C, D, F and G pay the $141.50 per day charge from days 21 through 100. You must enter a Medicare-certified facility within 30 days of being hospitalized for at least 3 days. Also a rule of thumb, is the condition must be an improvable condition. Benefits will continue to be paid as long as the patient is improving or is on a path towards improvement. Degenerative conditions and status will be referred to a Long Term Care Facility, which is not covered by Medicare or a Medicare Supplement.

Medicare Part B (Physician services, ambulance and Supplies) …

Plans C and F are the two plans which cover the Medicare Part B annual deductible of $162.00. This is an annual deductible and only needs to be satisfied once per year, unlike the Part A deductible which is a 60 “Benefit-Period deductible.” After the $162 deductible Medicare pays 80% of the eligible costs, while you are responsible for the remaining 20%. Medicare Supplement plans; A, B C, D, F, G, M and N all pay for this 20% charge.

Excess Charges …

Your bill for Medicare Part B services and supplies may exceed the Medicare eligible expense. When that occurs, Plans F and G pay 100% of the difference.

Guaranteed Issue …

All Medicare Supplement companies must follow a strict set of rules which allow individuals to apply and enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan without having to answer any health or prescription questions. To view all the available options, you can view the Guaranteed Issue rules here.

Application Process …

To apply simply print the Illinois application and fax it back to me at: 800-995-9913 (fax). Or, call and I can email, fax or mail an application to you. Please feel free to call and I will walk you right through the application.

Participating Doctors (PAR) …

Doctors who participate in Medicare agree to accept Medicare assignment (payment) for all claims for Medicare patients as payment in full. They can charge up to 100% of the allowable Medicare fee schedule and not more. Participating Doctors and other providers cannot bill the patient for any sum in excess of the Medicare allowable amounts. For a list of doctors and suppliers in your area who participate in Medicare you can call 1-800-MEDICARE or visit their website: www.Medicare.gov.

Non-Participating (Non PAR) …

If the doctor is not a participating provider in the Medicare program, they have chosen not to accept the Medicare fee schedule for claims. This allows them to charge their patient an additional 15% above what Medicare allows for the Part B services. This is called “Excess Charges” or “Limiting Charges.” Excess Charges for Non-PAR doctors are set a 115% of the Medicare approved amount for non-PAR physicians. However, because the Medicare approved amounts for Non-PAR physicians are reduced by 5% to 95% of the rate of PAR physicians, the 15% Excess Charge is actually only 9.25% above the Participating physician approved amounts for services. Non Participating (non-PAR) doctors cannot charge more than 95% of the “Participating Provider” fee schedule. Non Participating doctor fees are reduced by 5% for not participating in the Medicare Program. Excess Charges only apply to Medicare Part B coverage charges, although not for supplies or durable medical equipment.

Even though the doctor does not accept Medicare assignment, they are still required by law to submit the claim to Medicare. For example; after the claim is processed, Medicare will reimburse the doctor 80% of the approved amount. The balance of $35 ($20 Part B coinsurance plus $15 Excess Charge is your out of pocket cost, assuming you do not have a Medicare Supplement plan in place.

Private Contracting Doctors …

Physicians can choose to Opt-Out of the Medicare system all together. Once they have opted out of Medicare they cannot submit any claims to Medicare for any of their patients for a period of 2 years. For a doctor to see a Medicare beneficiary, the doctor must enter into a private contract that meets specific requirements, which must be written and signed by you. A doctor who has ”opted-out” can charge their own rates and are not bound by the Medicare fee schedule. If you have entered into an agreement with a doctor who has opted-out of Medicare, you will not be reimbursed by Medicare. You are responsible for all charges from that doctor, except those in need of “emergency” care, or urgent care.

Also, physicians who opt out cannot choose to opt out of Medicare for some Medicare beneficiaries but not others, or for some services and not others.

New to Medicare and looking looking to compare Medicare Supplement plans? Want to view rates of all the major companies in your area?

Medicare prescription plan, also known as Part D helps Medicare eligible beneficiaries pay for prescription drugs. If you are eligible for Medicare and do not currently have prescription drug coverage, you should consider enrolling in one of these plans. If you don’t enroll in a drug plan when you’re first eligible and you don’t have other creditable coverage, you may have to pay a “Late enrollment Penalty,” at least 1 percent of your premium for each month you wait to enroll.

Where to buy a Medicare Part D plan …

Private insurance companies are the only place to purchase a Part D Rx plan. A good place to shop is; www.Medicare.gov. And most follow a “Standard Benefit Plan Outline” which is as follows:

Initial deductible of $310 – Some plans may have a drug deductible. Most plans have either a $310 deductible, $150 deductible and others will not have any deductible at all, allowing “first dollar coverage.”

Initial Coverage Limit- This coverage limit extends to the point where the total retail cost of the medication(s) reach $2,840.

Coverage Gap (Donut Hole) – this gap in coverage starts when you reach your Medicare Part D plan coverage limit of $2,840, and ends when you have spent a total of $4,550. In 2011 Part D members will receive a 50% discount on all of their “Brand” drug costs while in the Coverage Gap (Donut Hole).

Catastrophic Coverage – When a person has spent more than $4,550 in prescription medication costs, they will be protected by the Catastrophic Coverage portion of their Part D coverage. This coverage level is 95%, which means you will be responsible for only 5% of your prescription costs.

Enrollment Periods …

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) – This period is for people who first become eligible for Medicare Parts A and B coverage. You have 6 months to enroll in a plan once your Part B coverage goes into effect.

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) – This is the time each year you are able to change Part D companies or stay with the same plan. The AEP starts each year on November 15th and ends December 31, for an effective date of January 1st.

Special Enrollment Period (SEP) – Allows a person to enroll in a Part D plan outside the normal enrollment periods. A Special Enrollment period is: when a person looses their current creditable prescription drug coverage with a group health plan. If the Part D company changes benefits of the plan, also if a person moves outside the Part D plan coverage location. These are all examples of a SEP.

A good place to start your search …

A good place to start your search is; www.Medicare.gov. You can enter your zip code, prescriptions and the type of plan you are looking for. The website will provide plan rates, benefits and out of pocket costs to help you find the best plan for your needs.

Company …

A+ financial rating, decades of Medicare Supplement experience along with proven excellent customer service, the Mutual of Omaha companies provide unquestionable stability and competitiveness in the Medicare Supplement market place.

Doctors & Hospitals …

With Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement plan, you are able to see any Physician, Specialist and Hospital in the United States if they are Medicare approved. You no longer need to verify if your doctor or hospital accepts a particular insurance company or plan. With a Medicare Supplement all you need to do is make sure they are Medicare approved. No need to worry about state borders or insurance provider networks, simply make sure your doctor accepts Medicare and your medical services will be covered depending on the plan you have chosen.

Medicare A & B first …

In order to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan you must first have in force both Medicare Parts A and B. You will be given a Medicare card with both Parts effective dates. Once your Part B goes into effect you will have 6 months to enroll without having to answer any health or prescription questions on the application. This 6 month window is called the “Initial Enrollment Period,” which is a guaranteed-issue period.

Medicare Supplement …

Every Medicare Supplement policy must follow Federal and state laws designed to protect you, and the policy must be clearly identified as “Medicare Supplement Insurance.” Medigap Insurance companies in most states can only sell you a “standardized” Medigap policy identified by letters A through N. Each standardized Medicare Supplement policy must offer the same basic benefits, no matter which insurance company sells it. Cost is usually the only difference between Medigap policies with the same letter sold by different insurance companies. In Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Medicare Supplement policies are standardized in a different way.

What Medicare Supplement policies don’t cover …

Generally, Medigap policies don’t cover long-term care (like care in a nursing home), vision or dental care, hearing aids, eyeglasses, and private duty nursing.

Medicare Part D Rx plans …

You will also need to enroll in a Medicare Part D Rx plan for your prescription coverage. The best place to start your research is; www.Medicare.gov. Enter your zip code and prescriptions and the website will provide all the information you need to make an informed decision. Or, you can call me and I can send you the top 3 plans in your county.

Ohio Anthem Medicare Supplement Plans …

Plans; A, F, High F, G and N. All plans provide a different coverage and benefit level. Original Medicare has deductibles and co-insurance for both inpatient and outpatient coverage. Part A (Inpatient hospital) has a $1,132.00 ‘benefit-period deductible for each 60 day benefit period. Medicare Part B (Outpatient) has an annual deductible of $162.00 and then 20% coinsurance after the deductible is satisfied (Medicare pays 80% you are responsible for 20%).

Medicare …

Original Medicare – The federal health insurance program available to people 65 years of age or older. Medicare is also available to people with certain disabilities who are under age 65 and also on Medicare.

Part A is Hospital Insurance. This pays for inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility and hospice care.

Part B Medical Insurance (Outpatient). This helps pay for doctors services, outpatient hospital care, durable medical equipment and some medical services not covered by Medicare Part A.

Part C – Medicare Advantage Plans (Usually HMO’s and PPO’s). Only available through private insurers contracted with Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans are usually County specific, meaning they are available in certain counties. Premiums can typically range from $0 to $100 per month, although most are in the $50 to $75 range. A Medicare Advantage plan will take the place of Medicare for your health insurance needs. Medicare is still in place but merely in the background.

Part D is Prescription drug coverage. Like a Medicare Advantage plan, Medicare Part D is available only from private insurance companies. Joining a Medicare Part D plan is voluntary, and you pay a monthly premium for the coverage. You must first have Medicare Parts A and B before enrolling in a Part D Rx plan.

Please remember whichever plan you are researching; Plan F, C, G, N or any of the other available 11 Medicare Supplement plans, the benefits are the same regardless of the company offering the plan. Plan F for company A has the exact same benefits as Company B or Company C. Medicare Supplement plans are Federally standardized which helps you when comparing company rates for the different plans. In other words it’s an apples to apples comparison.

Every Medicare Supplement policy must follow strict federal and state laws designed to protect you, and it must be clearly identified as Medicare Supplement insurance. Medicare Supplement companies can only sell you a “standardized” Medicare Supplement policy identifies by letters A through N. Each standardized Medigap policy must offer the same basic benefits, no matter which insurance provides the policy. Cost is usually the only major difference between Medicare Supplement policies sold by different insurance companies.

You must have both Medicare Parts A and B before you are able to enroll into a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage (PPO & HMO) plan. For most of us, Medicare Part A is is provided once we turn age 65 or are disabled and offered Medicare under age 65. Part B of Medicare must be purchased and enrolled in. You can contact the Social Security administration (800-772-1213), and have them send you the appropriate paperwork so you can enroll into Part B.

If you are still on an employers group health insurance plan, you do not need to enroll in the Part B plan if you choose to stay with the employer plan. If you know when your group health plan is going to cancel or you choose to retire, you can then contact Social Security for the Part B enrollment forms. Your Medicare card will show the start dates for both Part A and Part B. Quite often the two parts will have different start dates.

Prescription Drug Plan …

Medicare Part D Rx plans, are also needed if you have a Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement plan. Generally these plan will cost somewhere between $15.00 to $60.00 per month depending on your County of residence. Medicare Part D plans are County Specific and not necessarily State specific. You can contact me and I can email you the top three plan in your county. www.Medicare.gov is a good place to start comparing Medicare Part D Rx plans.

Medicare Secondary payer is a term use by medicare when Medicare is not responsible to pay first. In this situation the Group Health company will pay first and ‘coordinate’ benefits with Medicare.

When you or your spouse turn 65 and are still working for a company with more than 20 employees, you can deny Medicare until you retire or until your younger spouse turns 65. If the company you work for has more than 20 employees, Group Health insurance companies are primary and Medicare will be secondary for active employees ages 65 and older and the spouses (ages 65 or older) of active employees.

Federal law takes precedence over State law and private insurance contracts. When Medicare is the secondary payer, it’s federal, regardless of state law or plan provisions.

Group Health Plans …

An employer cannot offer, subsidize, or be involved in the arrangement of a Medicare supplement policy where the law makes Medicare the secondary payer. Even if the employer does not contribute to the premium, but merely collects it and forwards it to the appropriate individuals insurance company, the Group Health Plan policy is the primary payer to Medicare.

Medicare, Medicaid, and Schip Extension Act of 2007 …

New reporting requirements for the primary payer to CMS. Prior to 2007 CMS was often unaware of it’s entitlement to recover of insurance settlements. Now, failure to report an insurance settlement for a Medicare beneficiary carries a $1,000 per day, per claim penalty.

Companies with under 20 employees …

Medicare is the primary and the employer’s group health plan is secondary for employees with Medicare parts A and B when firms have fewer than 20 employees. Some companies will actually offer a reduced monthly premiums for the member who also has Medicare as their primary payer. Be sure to look into the option of enrolling into a Medicare Supplement plan, this may provide better coverage in addition to a lower premium. If your spouse is under age 65 you may want to stay on the group health plan because the full cost of the COBRA premiums may be a bit shocking.

If you are in one of these two situations your group carrier will notify Medicare in order to coordinate the two plans benefits for you. Also when Medicare is your secondary payer, your insurance company will submit claims to medicare, this is not your responsibility.

In most cases if a person is eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan, the price and benefit combo can’t be beat. Medicare Supplement Plan F for example provides virtually 100 percent coverage for Medicare Part A deductibles of $1,132.00 per benefit period, and Medicare Part B $162 annual deductible along with Medicare Part B 20% coinsurance after the deductible is met. Employers are increasingly suggesting the employee move to either a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan once they turn 65 because of the dramatic increase in group premiums for individuals age 65 and over.

Monthly Rates

United of Omaha offers a 7% premium discount. (Individuals must reside together for at least one year, or married and have issued policies). Members who reside together for at least one year, or are married, and one individual owns a United of Omaha Med Supp policy, while the other owns a Mutual of Omaha or United World policy, the discount will only apply to to the person with the United of Omaha policies. If both own a United of Omaha policy, both will receive the 7% discount to their premium.

Financial Strength: United of Omaha Life Insurance Company is A+ (Superior) Rated by A.M. Best Company.

Paying a higher premium with a different company won’t get you something extra. Medicare Supplement plans in most states are Federally standardized. So a Plan F with company A will be the same as Plan F with company B. There is no reason to be paying a higher premium simply because you like the name of the company. There are currently 11 standardized Medicare Supplement plans available in most states. In states such as Minnesota and Wisconsin the two plans are called “Basic” and “Extended Basic.” With these two plans you are able to add additional coverages depending on your needs.

The Medicare Supplement Standardized plans are; A, B, C, D, F, High Deductible F, G, K, L, M and N. These are the available Medicare Supplement plans in most states. Plan F is the most popular followed by plans C, D and G.

Eligibility:

You must have both Medicare Parts A and B in force to apply for a Medicare Supplement plan. If you are new to Medicare Part B (within 6 months) or recently off of an employer group health plan, you can enroll into a Medicare Supplement plan guaranteed-issue, regardless of your current or past health status. If you are NOT new to Medicare or have not recently cancelled your Group Health insurance policy, and you are shopping for a better Medicare Supplement policy or rate, you can still apply anytime of the year. Simply answer the health questions on the application and a decision will be made in about two weeks. It’s simple, I will email or mail a comparison of the different Medicare Supplement company rates to you so you can compare the best company and rates in your area.

You will most likely find United of Omaha to have very competitive pricing in most areas they are offering coverage.

Applying is Easy!

New to Medicare or switching companies? I’ll send you the appropriate application for your state (call me and I can walk you through it). When finished simply fax it back to me and I’ll do the rest to make sure you receive your requested start date and make sure the application process is quick and accurate.
