California Medicare Supplement – Anthem
There are dozens of California Medicare Supplement companies providing the different Medigap plans A through N. All companies set their own rates and handle their customer service and administrative departments their own way. California is one of the only states which offers the “Birthday Rule,” which allows a California Medicare Supplement member to change companies yearly on the month of their birthday … guaranteed. Out of all of a Seniors options regarding California companies, plans, rates, customer service, one of my favorite companies is and always has been Anthem Blue Cross.Anthem Blue Cross offers Medicare Supplement plans A, F, High Deductible F, G and N. Anthem info. There are other plans available, although these mentioned plans are by far the most popular.
Why do I like Anthem Blue Cross? There are a few reasons; first they, are a national company who has been providing health insurance coverage for individuals for over 70 years. They’re not going anywhere. Some companies have a track record of entering a state then a few years later leaving. I like Anthems longevity. Second, their customer service is excellent. If I need an answer or one of my clients questions (they usually call me), Anthem is very easy to get through to, they don’t have long recordings or complicated phone automated attendants. I get through to a person right away, receive the answer, so I am able to call my client back quickly, which is what we all like. Third, their rates are very competitive. They may not be the lowers in all ares of a state, but they are close. Longevity, great customer service, and solid rates. These three reasons mean a lot to me and my clients!
Anthem’s Medicare Part D Rx plans are also very competitive with the other Part D companies. You can compare Anthem’s plans here.
Anthem, as a company, received a large amount of publicity earlier this year when they announced a rate increase in certain areas in the range of 35%. This increase was only for certain plans in certain parts of California for their under age 65 plans (Individual & Family plans). This had nothing to do with Anthem’s Medicare Supplement line of plans, or it’s Small Group or Employer plans. The Anthem Medicare Supplement plan rates have been extremely stable over the years, without any large rate fluctuations.

Example benefits for Plan F:
- Medicare Part A deductible ($1,132 each 60 day benefit period).
- Medicare Part B deductible ($162 per year).
- Medicare Part B co-insurance (20% after deductible).
- Coverage for 365 more hospital care days after the Medicare benefits ends.
- 3 pints of blood per year.
- Skilled Nursing Facility care.
- Foreign Travel emergencies.
- Covers 100% of Medicare Part B excess charges.
- Home recovery care when Medicare approves a home care treatment plan.
