Part B Deductible Should you choose a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan? Most people feel, if it’s in their budget to pay the Medicare Supplement premium, they choose a Med Supp, because of the comprehensive benefits available.
A Medicare Advantage plan is usually an HMO or PPO Medicare plan. This type of plan has an “Annual Open Enrollment each year in November and December where you can choose a different company of your choice and have the new coverage effective January 1 of the following year.
Remember, you can always choose to move to a Medicare Advantage plan regardless of the type of plan you currently have. Simply enroll into a Medicare Advantage plan during the open enrollment period. On the other hand, Medicare Supplement plans do not have an “Annual Open Enrollment” period. If you are currently on a Medicare Advantage plan and have been enrolled for more than 1 year, you will have to qualify medically in order to move to a Medicare Supplement plan.
