Who Buys a Medicare Supplement?
A person looking for freedom of choice with doctors, specialists and hospitals .. access to care. No networks or referrals to fuss with. Also, comprehensive coverage. 100% coverage, or maybe a small $183 annual deductible or a plan with a $20 copay.
A person who who also wants to pick the best Medicare Part D Rx plan for their medication list. With medicare and a medicare supplement plan, you are free to choose any of the 25 Part D rx plans available in your county.
When you choose an Medicare HMO, the Part D plan is included in the HMO. You are not able to choose a different Rx plan, you must enroll only in what the HMO plan provides.
Innovative Plan F has lower premiums then the original Anthem Medicare Supplement plan F, even with the additional hearing and vision benefits included.
Keep in mind, the California Birthday rule does not apply to the new Innovative plans because moving to an Innovative plan is considered an upgrade, so you must be either new to medicare (6 month open-enrollment), exiting a group health policy (2 month open-enrollment) or moving out of your current medicare advantage service area (2 month).
The California Birthday rule allows you to move to a different company with the same plan or one with less benefits. If you wish to upgrade, you must answer the health questions on the new company application.
